Springbourne is a suburb located in Bournemouth. It covers an area of 93 acres 
and was originally known as Boscombe Heath. The area got its name from a spring that flowed from near the Windham Road end of Spring Road, passed underground to Boscombe Chine, and eventually reached the sea.
In the early days, Springbourne was a village that provided housing for craftsmen and artisans who worked in the growing town of Bournemouth. Many of the cottages that these workers lived in, which were built during the mid to late Victorian era, can still be seen today in the Northcote and Lytton Road areas. Later, the area was developed with avenues of mainly Edwardian houses, with roads named after US presidents and statesmen, such as Garfield Avenue and Washington Avenue.
